He's currently a Director of User Experience for YouTube Advertising at Google, where he leads an international team of designers and researchers responsible for enabling a healthy ecosystem for YouTube and its billions of users worldwide, and an Adjunct Professor at Carnegie Mellon University Silicon Valley, where he teaches a graduate-level course on Human-Computer Interaction & User Experience.

Kristian Kabuay was born in the Philippines and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. He spent his college years in the Philippines where he honed his knowledge about the native ancient writing system, Baybayin. Kristian is a self-taught artist influenced by calligraphy, graffiti, abstract art, indigenous culture, technology and Asian writing systems.

Founded two years ago by Roland Ros and Rexy Josh Dorado, Kumu aspires to be a βsuper appβ for Filipinos around the world, integrating live streaming, video chats and gaming, with plans to add online payments and e-commerce functions, too. Kumuβs upcoming features include a live commerce platform that allows users to buy items during live streams, giving content creators an additional source of revenue.

But Roland succeeded the third time when he co-founded Kumu, the Philippinesβ #1 social media app. Roland and Kumuβs co-founders took βeverything weβve learned from the US and we moved to the Philippines to risk it all.β Today, the Pinoy livestreaming super app has over 5 million users in 50+ countries and just celebrated its two-year anniversary this month.
